Overview

Atlassian’s Global Experiences organization is on a mission to unify and elevate our portfolio of products through seamless, connected user experiences across the Atlassian platform. The Platform Apps team is at the core of this mission, building and scaling essential apps—like Home, People Directory, Goals, and Projects—that are available to every Atlassian user.

As a Senior Principal Engineer, you’ll shape the technical direction and strategy for Platform Apps, driving architecture and execution to deliver secure, scalable, and consistent experiences. In this high-impact role, you’ll collaborate with teams across Atlassian, and work at the intersection of product, UX, and engineering, to deliver enterprise-grade solutions and play a key part in advancing our System of Work and platform innovation.

• Lead technical strategy and architecture for Platform Apps, ensuring scalable, secure, and consistent solutions.

• Drive innovation in user and admin experiences, with a focus on Atlassian Home and integrating AI-powered insights into core apps.

• Partner with product, UX, and engineering leaders to define and deliver a roadmap of high-impact, standalone apps that solve real problems at scale.

• Own and deliver on high-visibility business outcomes, connecting technical solutions to Atlassian’s strategic goals and OKRs.

• Shape the future of app creation at Atlassian by leading initiatives to accelerate and standardize how apps are built, deployed, and managed.

• Collaborate across teams and functions, influencing strategies and shaping roadmaps to maximize business and customer impact.

• Champion engineering excellence and continuous improvement at scale.

• Mentor and uplift engineers, fostering a culture of growth and inclusion.

• Drive positive change and innovation across Atlassian’s platform.

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in platform and product engineering at scale.

• Proven track record architecting, building, and operating large-scale, distributed systems and user-facing applications.

• Experience leading multi-year, cross-org technical initiatives that drive business outcomes and elevate engineering culture.

• Strong product mindset and UX sensibility—able to balance technical rigor with user and business impact.

• Expertise in frontend frameworks, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, observability, security, compliance).

• Exceptional collaboration, communication, and leadership skills; able to influence at all levels and mentor senior engineers.

• Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing engineering environment.
